Following the resurfacing of the video showing an awkward exchange between him and Zendaya, Matt Rife is navigating a new blowback.
The 28-year-old comedian is already the subject of controversy after making sexist jokes in his first Netflix show, Natural Selection. Now, supporters have uncovered further instances of his misplaced attempts at humor.
He ought to know by now that everything gets immortalized on the internet, even the video of his embarrassing flirtation attempt with the gorgeous Zendaya from a 2015 episode of Wild ‘N Out.
In Season 7, Rife rose to prominence on the popular MTV show hosted by Nick Cannоn, and he appeared eager to make an impression on the audience to validate his value.
This explains his excessively touchy demeanor when he saw Zendaya while he was taking his turn in the ‘Talking Spit’ game during the episode in which she made a special appearance.
The object of the game is to get the famous person—Zendaya, in this case—to laugh so hard that they spit out their mouth before their opponent.
The actress still had the liquid inside her cheeks because she was figҺting against Cannоn and had thus far maintained her calm.
After taking a trot to make them both laugh, Rife knelt behind the chair of the Wild ‘N Out presenters and told Zendaya his first disgusting joke.
“Look, you’re mixed; I want to be Black,” he exclaimed. “Let’s produce a lifestyle film!”
When his attempt to make the Spider-Man actress laugh backfired and she held the water firmly in her lips, it only made him want to win even more.
Rife walked straight over to Zendaya, grabbed her face, and said, “Spit that water out so I can get your number, please.” With an awful stutter.
Despite his weird proposal of a date during the game and his invasion of her personal space, she remained composed and only waved her finger dissatisfiedly.
Even more incensed were Rife’s comedy show co-stars, who scolded him for his actions and ordered him to move back away from her right away.
“Oh, it was over, I’m like Matt—nuh uh,” exclaimed one. You’re not going to do it. The girl secured employment at Disney Channel.”
Rife stated of his actions, even though the joke did not go down well:
“The thing that irritates me the most about that situation is that everyone was saying, ‘Ahh, she shot you down,’ as like I was actually spitting game. As though that’s actually the way I would talk to her. I’m in the game.”
After seeing the rediscovered clip of the Wild ‘N Out episode, he has been labeled a ‘stalker’ by social media users.
“That was so cringe,” someone commented. With.”
Another commented, saying, “To be honest, he didn’t succeed in making her laugh in this footage, so he went to touch her face in a depressingly desperate attempt to make her laugh. It was very uncomfortable to see.”
Another stated: “Known Matt Rife was trаsh since he touched Zendaya’s face on Wild ‘N Out without her consent.”
“Totally forgot Matt Rife was the one who made the weird comments to Zendaya,” remarked a fourth commenter. Now, everything is beginning to make sense.”
