With good reason, Raheem Sterling’s superb free kick against Newcastle was chosen as Chelsea’s November Goal of the Month.
From just outside the area at St. James’ Park, the winger struck the top corner, giving Nick Pope in the Magpies goal little chance. The video below shows Sterling’s effort from back then.
Watch Raheem Sterling’s stunning free kick against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park, which has earned him a nomination for Goal of the Month in November at the Premier League Awards.
Although we lost the match 4-1 on Tyneside, Sterling’s spectacular goal proved to be in vain. Nevertheless, the striker emerged victorious in our Goal of the Month survey, which supporters cast their votes for on the Official Chelsea App and website.
Raheem’s free kick received 64% of the vote, far more than Thiago Silva’s goal against Manchester City (which came in second) and Sam Kerr’s goal against Paris FC (which came in third), with 16 and 8% of the vote each.
Tyrique George and Lauren James’ strikes completed the set, with Sterling’s strike against Blackburn being another contender.
Raheem, congratulations!
