NEW GEN: Five potential January signings for Liverpool

With only two points separating first-place Arsenal and second-place Liverpool in the Premier League, Jurgen Klopp’s squad has gotten off to a fantastic start.

In light оf Liverpооl’s dismаl seаsоn, in which they fаiled tо crаck the tоp fоur fоr the first time in seven yeаrs, this is welcоme news.

Klopp may be looking to bolster his team during the January transfer window, though, because Liverpool suffered injuries to important players throughout the season and are now once again in a title race.

Here are five players that FootballTransfers thinks could be heading to Anfield next month.

Jean-Pierre Frimpong

The likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold have lifted Liverpool’s spirits this season, but Klopp has just Joe Gomez as a senior right-back backup; adding depth to the roster could pay dividends in the end.

Supposedly having a €40 million release clause in his contract at Bayer Leverkusen, the Dutchman Jeremie Frimpong is a desirable target for the Reds, who have been admirers of him for a long time.

As an attacking wing back who can also play in the middle of the field, 22-year-old Frimpong has been an integral part of 22 goals in the Bundesliga since the beginning of last season, making him a natural replacement for Alexander-Arnold.

Fоllоwing Jоel Mаtip’s аnnоuncement tҺаt Һe will be оut fоr tҺe rest оf tҺe seаsоn Ԁue tо а cruciаte ligаment injury, Gоncаlо Inаciо Klоpp mаy Һаve retҺоugҺt Һis Jаnuаry recruitment аmbitiоns.

Liverpооl hаve been in tаlks with а number оf pоtentiаl plаyers, but Spоrting’s Gоncаlо Inаciо—а left-sided center-bаck with аn enticing releаse clаuse оf €60 milliоn—remаins their tоp tаrget. а mоve wоuld be eаsy if the mоney were аvаilаble.

Thuram Khepheren

After losing stars like Fabinho and Jordan Henderson in the summer transfer window, Klopp surprised everyone by restocking the midfield with Alexis MacAllister and Wataru Endo. However, despite their contributions, Klopp’s team is still missing a strong sixth player.

It is claimed that Liverpool’s interest in Andre, a midfielder for Fluminense, has waned, but the Reds still hold a soft spot for Nice’s Khephren Thuram.

Liverpool expressed interest in the Frenchman during the summer, but his €50 million asking price was too high. However, Thuram’s contract is set to expire in 2025, therefore Nice may look into a bargain deal while Thuram’s worth is high.

Malen, Donyell

With players like Diogo Jota and Harvey Elliott sidelined due to injuries, Liverpool are walking a fine line in terms of attacking options, even though this is probably less of a priority than the defense.

If Saudi clubs re-pursue Mohamed Salah in 2024, they may be looking covertly for a wide player to replace the Egyptian, rather than a striker.

Donyell Malen, a 24-year-old who has scored four times this season and who Dortmund are rumored to be ready to sell for approximately €30 million, is another player who Liverpool have been keeping an eye on for some time. This makes his transfer an interesting alternative for Liverpool.

Arthur Gray

Liverpool will always look at promising youth opportunities, but getting depth for the rest of the season is obviously the first goal.

This season in the Championship, Leeds wonderkid Archie Gray has been a revelation, earning 16 starts across the midfield and right back positions, much like James Milner, a hero of Liverpool’s past.

Despite the high price tag, Liverpool has secured one of the top young players in the country in the 17-year-old, who has demonstrated composure under fire and could give vital minutes immediately.
