According to Alisson, Liverpool’s 2-1 comeback victory over Crystal Palace was motivated by their desire to win the title

After a scoreless draw at Selhurst Park in February, Liverpool lost ground on the top four and crashed out of the playoffs.

Following the incident, Jurgen Klopp, the manager, was forthright in his assessment of the situation, saying that although their season will not be the subject of any major films, they would need to persevere through the challenges they faced.

It had been four days since a crushing 5-2 loss to Real Madrid at Anfield had essentially ruined their chances of winning any major hardware this season. Klopp predicted that this would not be a memorable season for future generations.

Not only that, but he conceded that he obviously needed to do something during the summer. It was difficult to minimize the gravity of the situation as ‘Liverpool 2.0’ soared to the top of the league following another miraculous comeback triumph thanks to a goal scored in stoppage time by Harvey Elliott.

It had been since May 2022 that Klopp’s squad had completed a day at the top of the tree. Although this performance failed to impress, Liverpool is known for its tenacity and aggression.

Following Jordan Ayew’s dismissal, they scored twice with their lone attempt on goal. Klopp conceded that the team had a “really bad performance” up to Mohamed Salah’s deflection equalizer in the 76th minute. Their lone league loss was to Tottenham in that notorious game where they were reduced to nine međťš— and Luis Diaz’s goal was incorrectly disallowed; they have won 18 of their 37 points from a losing position this season, which is more than any other team.

Twelve of their goals have come in the final ten minutes of games, demonstrating that they never give up.

Goalkeeper Alisson’s sensational recovery from a three-game Îąnjury lay to rest any worries about their aspirations. “Winning the league is our target, our goal,” the Brazilian declared. “That mindset is essential for winning teams because it allows them to come back from behind.”

Klopp has been very experimental this season, averaging 2.6 substitutions per league game, but the foundation of the 2019–20 champions is still there. Only Nottingham Forest (2.9) and Brighton (4.5) have been more disorganized. Klopp has fielded more substitutes than any other coach in the league, with 138 in 23 games.

Klopp spent much of the summer claiming that his revamped Liverpool team, which he dubbed “Liverpool reloaded,” has the talent and desire to challenge at the highest level. Elliott, a 20-year-old substitute, was the game-changer at Selhurst Park.

“The substitutes were extremely significant,” Klopp remarked. That sums up the season thus far. It makes a difference when we use bench players. This crew is amazing, and I couldn’t be more optimistic about it.

Following their Europa League group stage match at Union Saint-Gilloise in Brussels, Liverpool will host three games in as many days, including a Carabao Cup quarterfinal against West Ham, Manchester United’s visit, and Arsenal’s.

At Anfield, Liverpool have gone undefeated thus far this season. After Arsenal’s 2012 victory, United won there in 2016. Beating those two would put them in first place by Christmastime. Although Aston Villa and Arsenal are formidable opponents, Manchester City only have one Premier League match left until Christmas, so there is still time to gain ground.

Yeah, without a doubt (we have to take advantage of City’s inconsistent play),” Elliott responded. Their potential is limitless.

We are just as accomplished as that world-class club. Being selfish is essential if we want to keep scoring points and winning games. Winning the Premier League was the goal as the season began.

After scoring Liverpool’s 200th goal, Mohamed Salah said, “We can do something special this year.”

The return of Klopp’s monsters of thought has Liverpool’s campaign on the brink of a possible breakthrough.
