An error by Everton saw Newcastle United midfielder Lewis Miley named on Chelsea’s squad list for their Premier League fixture at Goodison Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Magpies youngster started the 3-0 defeat at Everton on Thursday night and retained his place in the line-up for the 4-1 loss against Tottenham Hotspur yesterday.

But as Miley prepared to take on Spurs, there were suggestions from Merseyside that the 17-year-old was playing for the wrong club!

A programme mistake by Everton saw Miley incorrectly listed as part of the Chelsea squad. Former Blues forward Jude Soonsup-Bell was also named despite joining Tottenham in January.

Daily Mail reporter Lewis Steele posted a photo of the programme along with the caption: “Either a programme error or Chelsea have signed Lewis Miley from Newcastle (No 67).”

Chelsea suffered a 2-0 defeat at Goodison Park following second-half goals from Abdoulaye Doucoure and Lewis Dobbin.

Meanwhile, Miley played 90 minutes as he and his teammates suffered a heavy defeat via a brace from Richarlison and goals from Destiny Udogie and Heung-Min Son.

The defeat leaves Eddie Howe’s side seventh in the Premier League table. Next up is the Champions League clash at home to AC Milan on Wednesday, where United must better Paris Saint-Germain’s result in Borussia Dortmund to qualify for the knockout stages.
