Tom Holland is open to playing Peter Parker again in Spider-Man 4, but he needs to meet a few requirements beforehand.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Holland has portrayed Peter Parker since 2016. He starred in his own Spider-Man film series after making his screen debut as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War. In the 2017 film Spider-Man: Homecoming, the 2019 film Spider-Man: Far From Home, and the 2021 film Spider-Man: No Way Home, he portrayed the title character. In two additional MCU movies, Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019), he also portrayed the character. Even though his most recent appearance as Peter Parker was a huge hit, Spider-Man 4 is still unconfirmed. Holland is patient and leaves the possibility of a future visit open in case his requirements are satisfied.
Regarding his future as Spider-Man in the MCU, Holland provided an update in an interview with Collider. The actor, 27, disclosed that he is “actively engaging in conversations” regarding Spider-Man 4’s possible appearance. But because he is “very protective” of the character, he is more worried about doing it justice. He agreed that every film built on the success and quality of the one before it, and expressed a desire to keep up the momentum and preserve the legacy.
I’m quite possessive of Spider-Man. I want to preserve his legacy because I consider it really fortunate that we were able to work on a franchise that improved and became more successful with each film. I hereby promise not to create another one just for the pleasure of doing so. It must be worthwhile for the character to invest their time in.
The Uncharted star made it clear that he would return and don Spider-Man’s spidersuit if they could treat his illness. He declared that the title character owed him everything. Holland stated that if the proper narrative was found, he would play the same part again because he enjoyed the people he worked with and the role he played in the movie.
I owe Spider-Man everything, so if we can work that out, I would be foolish not to put the suit back on. Both the character and the individuals I work with are fantastic. I therefore really want to tell you another story, but I will only do so if we can locate the ideal one.
Holland made a remark that was expected. It was natural that he would be protective of his legacy as Peter Parker, a.k.a. Spider-Man, given that he popularized the character among younger fans even though he may not be the greatest Spider-Man actor for every MCU fan. In addition, many have questioned whether he will reprise his role as the beloved figure in No Way Home in light of its commercial success. Holland has consistently stated that, should the screenplay suit the character, he would be willing to reprise his role as Peter. He stated in an earlier interview that he would be willing to play the same character again if the upcoming film improved the plot and the franchise.
Spider-Man 4 is already an extension of Holland’s original deal to play the superhero, which he signed for a trilogy. He acknowledged that it would be a blessing if he could reprise the title role in a future movie. His future as Spider-Man, however, is still up in the air because the actor needs to fulfill a certain requirement. Holland’s tenure as Spider-Man on the big screen lasted for two years, and with no production timetable in sight, Spider-Man 4 might take longer than fans had anticipated.
