Ivan Toney received a major boost from Arsenal, while Chelsea plans to implement stringent new regulations.
The news that Chelsea intends to impose a stringent criterion that would eliminate them from the running has given Arsenal a significant advantage in their pursuit of Ivan Toney.
For breaking the FA’s betting regulations, Toney was fined £50,000 and banned from football for eight months.
The Brentford striker is scheduled to make his comeback in January. Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United are among the Premier League teams eager to sign him during the winter transfer window.
Any prospective buyer would probably have to sell in order to acquire the striker because the Bees are reportedly wanting £100 million in exchange for parting with their prized asset.
But, given rumors that Chelsea is eager to reduce its pay bill going forward, teams like Arsenal might have the advantage.
It is stated in The Daily Mail that “they are keen to avoid the prospect of paying players in-excess of £150,000-per-week.”
Many elite players, like Toney, will be turned off by that because they know he can make nearly twice as much at another team.
It’s unclear if Chelsea would sign Toney regardless of their new salary policy. However, Thomas Frank, the manager of Brentford, had previously acknowledged that he would consider selling the forward for the “right price”.
In September, Frank said to Sky Sports, “I understand why there are a lot of rumors out there about him.”
“As a striker No. 9, he is among the finest in my opinion. There are a few that are better than him, like [Harry] Kane, [Robert] Lewandowski, [Erling] Haaland, and others, but they are few.
“He scored 20 goals in the Premier League last year, in, of course, a very good Brentford side but of course we are not creating as many chances as the top six or seven teams.”
