Sadly, life happens so rapidly. Football does too. Red Devils, welcome back to the well of woe.
United’s next game is away at Premier League leaders Liverpool. They have been eliminated from both the Champions League and Europe as a whole.
The conclusion of Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s acquisition of a minority interest in the club is still pending. There have been rumors that Graham Potter is the manager. Naturally, on the eve of the January transfer window, terms like “clear-out” and “rebuild” have been circulating throughout the United bubble of conversation.
Which players might be moved in the upcoming month or so? Let’s examine five strong candidates.
Casemiro 90min revealed on Friday that Casemiro is ready to depart Old Trafford in January after realizing his future there.
The Saudi Pro League is interested in him, and while Paris Saint-Germain would also like to sign him, Financial Fair Play regulations will probably prevent them from moving forward.
Casemiro turns 32 in February, and since United may come close to recovering the £60 million they paid Real Madrid for him, this seems like the ideal moment to cut relations. The question of “who should United sign to anchor their midfield?” must once again be considered.
Rafael Varane
Because United was ready to deal with their senior stars, Real Madrid has been able to, at least partially, reload and rejuvenate their team with some of the best young talent in the world.
It appears to be a very reasonable trade-off.
Despite having a strong comeback season the previous year, Raphael Varane has strangely lost favor this season, even when healthy.
On Thursday, 90min disclosed that his contract is scheduled to expire in 2024 and that his long-term prospects are still unknown. It would make sense to let Varane go quickly because United is looking for a new center back.
Jadon Sancho
Three months after their first altercation, Jadon Sancho is still not willing to apologize to manager Erik ten Hag for raising doubts about his decision to bench him.
Though 90min knows claims that United has held conversations about a swap deal with Donyell Malen are untrue, he would be interested in going back to his old club, Borussia Dortmund.
Although Sancho is still only 23 years old and has a long career ahead of him, he has a lot of time to make up for his lackluster time at Old Trafford. Someone willing to take on a troubled asset?
Anthony Martial
Anthony Martial is entitled to a testimonial if he continues with United through the end of the 2024–2025 campaign.
It is quite improbable that he will stay at Old Trafford for such a long time, as the team is expected to decide against activating the contract’s extension clause before it expires in June 2024.
It’s time to sаy goodbye, Martial. Thank you for the pictures with the black gloves, the freezing celebrations, and the 2019–20 season in which you somehow rose to the top of the world rankings.
Van de Beek Donny
At United, Donny van de Beek hasn’t quite clicked for a variety of reasons.
Despite being an essential member of Ten Hag’s Ajax team that advanced to the Champions League semifinals in 2019, he has failed to maintain that level of play in England, both with and without the Dutch manager at his side.
There will likely be a loan to Eintracht Frankfurt in January.
