Victor Osimhen has finally reached an agreement with Napoli to sign a new contract until 2026, making the Nigerian striker one of the highest paid players in the Italian club’s history, Fabrizio Romano confirm.
However, although the former Lille man is prepared to extend his stay with the reigning Serie A champions for another year – his contract expires in 2025 – that does not mean a move is out of the question. Going is inevitable.
Osimhen’s new contract will include a release clause of around 130 million euros, effective as early as 2024, according to Sky Sports. Both Chelsea and Manchester United, who are interested in signing the 2023 African Footballer of the Year winner to bolster their attack, will be able to afford the fee next year.
Osimhen scored an impressive 66 goals in 116 appearances for the Naples team after joining for a club record fee of £69.5 million from Lille in 2020. Last summer, boss Aurelio de Laurentiis insisted that Osimhen would not be sold, but later revealed that it would only sell for 150 million euros. After a whole summer without a partner to negotiate to buy the Nigerian striker, Italian film industry tycoon De Laurentiis decided to extend the contract, both to retain the player and also to sell at a reasonable price. Sky Sports asserts that the Napoli boss now only wants to sell, but the fact that the contract release clause is only 130 million euros (instead of 150 million euros as he once claimed) shows that the Napoli boss is eager to sell his bargain. How am I?
The Nigerian international has made 15 official appearances for Napoli this season, 12 of which were starts, scoring 7 goals and providing 1 assist.
