In Manchester United’s match against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool at Anfield, Erik ten Hag started 18-year-old midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, and Mainoo did a fantastic job.

Mainoo was outstanding as part of a midfield triangle with Scott McTominay and Sofyan Amrabat; his brilliant through pass to Alejandro Garnacho almost gave the Red Devils the victory.

With four starts under his belt this season, Mainoo has been United’s best midfielder in practically every one of those games.

As per the United website, Mainoo has broken the record for the youngest player to ever play a Premier League match for Manchester United, making his debut against Liverpool.

Despite playing in a hоstile environment, the 18-year-old remained cool and collected and made almost no mistakes, with the exception of a sliding challenge in the first half.

Along with Mainoo, two other Academy alums—Garnacho and Jonny Evans—started and impressed for the Reds against Liverpool, while McTominay captained them for the first time in league play.

Although the midfielder has obvious future potential at Old Trafford, the Englishman has burst into the scene in the past few weeks to the point where Erik ten Hag is practically unable to ignore him.

When compared to the rest of United’s midfielders, Mainoo stands out for his poise and experience in the middle of the field. The adolescent’s maturity and poise at Anfield were unparalleled, even by captain Scott McTominay.

Ten Hag and United, who have lost 12 games so far this season, could benefit from his consistent playing time for the Red Devils.
