Player Ratings: Van Dijk and Nunez Shine as Liverpool Secures 2-0 Victory Against Burnley

After securing a 2-0 victory against Burnley at Turf Moor on Boxing Day, Liverpool clinched the top spot in the Premier League standings.

 

In the 14th minute, Cody Gakpo provided a precise assist to Darwin Núñez, who confidently netted his first goal in 13 games, giving Liverpool an early lead. Later in the first half, Gakpo found the net, but Nunez’s goal was disallowed due to a foul on Burnley defender Charlie Taylor. Mohamed Salah came close to doubling the lead, but his shot hit the crossbar.

 

In the second half, Harvey Elliott’s pass from Ryan Gravenberch seemed to result in another goal for Liverpool, but VAR ruled Salah offside, interfering with play.
