Last night during a match against Getafe, Mason Greenwood was sent off when a red mist settled over him.
The 22-year-old, who is currently on loan from Manchester United, was sent off in the 50th minute of the Madrid derby against Rayo Vallecano for foul language directed towards the referee.
By the time the Englishman was sent out, Getafe had already gone down to ten me𝚗 and were behind 2-0. The referee issued a third yellow card to them later in the match, and they were replaced.
Referee Jorge Vazquez denied Greenwood’s appeal for a foul, leading to a straight red. The referee didn’t dally before pointing to the tunnel and showing him a red card.
Getafe had to cope with Juanmi Latasa’s second yellow card five minutes before halftime, and then they received a second red card. Their bad luck took a turn for the worst in the 70th minute as benchwarmer Damian Suarez was sent off for dissent once again.
Getafe, currently in eighth place, lost their first game of 2024 to Vallecano, currently in eleventh place, despite having a golden opportunity to go up to seventh place and pass Real Betis.
With nine goals and an assist in fifteen games in all competitions since joining the La Liga side last summer, Greenwood has enjoyed a promising start to life in Spain.
He scored once and set up another in last month’s sensational 3-0 away loss to Sevilla for Getafe.
Manchester United have suffered greatly this season, particularly in the оffensive department, and his absence has been felt by all. The 19-year-old attacker Alejandro Garnacho has scored five goals in all competitions this season, putting him in first place. Marcus Rashford has scored three goals, two of which have come in the Premier League.
Despite their оffensive wоes, the club’s decision to reintroduce the former England international into the first squad last year has been the subject of public criticism, thus it is unclear whether they will return him this summer.
