According to British press, Chelsea is holding negotiations to recruit 17-year-old defender David Odogu from Wolfsburg.
Odogu was a member of the team Germany U17 that defeated France U17 to win the U17 World Cup in Indonesia last December. This young star is compared to famous midfielder Antonio Rudiger because of his strong physique and fierce playing style, not afraid of collision.
In addition to Chelsea, Leicester – the club currently leading the English First Division (Championship) in the 2023/24 season, is also interested in Odogu – who has not played a minute for Wolfsburg’s first team. To date, the 17-year-old centre-back has made 34 appearances for the U17 team and 15 times for the Wolfsburg U19 team.
According to the British press, Odogu really wants to move to England to play football. Chelsea is in the early stages of negotiating with this young talent, and is confident of winning.
However, before thinking about strengthening the force, Chelsea needs to sell some players this January to balance the budget. Defender Ian Maatsen – a product of the Blues youth academy – is catching the “eye” of Dortmund.
Coach Mauricio Pochettino is said to have the right to participate in Chelsea’s transfer issues, instead of having to listen closely to the arrangements of the team’s leadership.
Speaking about this issue recently, the Argentine coach said: “It’s crazy to think that the head coach will not participate in any decisions for the future in the transfer process. Of course, we will share with the owner, the sporting director and I cannot think of not participating. There is very good communication, we talk every day and we will make decisions because we are all on the same page”.
