Zendaya is starting the new year with a social media purge, going back to the basics.
For the new year, Zendaya is making changes to her Instagram page.
The 27-year-old Emmy winner cleaned house on the social networking platform on Wednesday, unfollowing all of her friends, colleagues, and even her boyfriend and co-star in Spider-Man, Tom Holland.
The Euphoria actress has not yet provided an explanation for her social media cleanse, which may be related to her impending leading parts in Dune: Part 2 and Challengers. It does so just a few days after Zendaya shared a new poster for the tennis-focused movie in a post promoting the latter movie.
The actress posted “Challengers April 26th” with her 194 million followers. “Wishing you all the most beautiful new year✨”
The image showcases Zendaya’s persona at the forefront, donning reflective spectacles that reveal Josh O’Connor from The Crown and Mike Faist, a former cast member of West Side Story, competing against each other on a tennis court. The September release date of the Luca Guadagnino-directed film was rescheduled as a result of the SAG-AFTRA actor’s strike.
Dune: Part 2, Zendaya’s other 2024 movie, was similarly scheduled for a fall release, but Warner Bros. Discovery postponed it due to the strike. In addition to Timothée Chalamet, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, and other A-list actors, that movie will be released in March.
Zendaya has been rather silent on social media in recent months, maybe taking some time to spend with her family and her boyfriend, aside from advertising her upcoming films.
The Spider-Man stars were pictured together on an outing in West London in October, just before the SAG-AFTRA strike ended. During the walk, they were seen putting their arms around each other.
A week earlier, the actress addressed engagement rumors on her Instagram Story, which started after she shared a picture of herself showing off a large ring on her finger.
Zendaya giggled on the video, rolling her eyes teasingly. “I can’t post anything, you guys,” she said. “I put it up for my hat… I mean, you guys, not for the ring on my right finger. Do you really believe that would be the way I dropped the deuce? Like, really?!”
Because Zendaya was wearing a large ring and a Golden State Warriors cap in the photo, there was unintentional speculation that her boyfriend, Tom Holland, had proposed. But it was clear from a closer look that the band in issue was a pearl ring and probably wasn’t an engagement ring.
Although the couple’s specific dating history is unknown, romance rumors started to circulate in 2016 while they were filming Spider-Man: Homecoming. With the exception of interviews and public appearances for the two Spider-Man sequels in 2019 and 2021, the couple has stayed very quiet about their relationship, rarely expressing their affection for one another on social media.
