The La Liga club Getafe is appealing the red card that Man Utd loanee Mason Greenwood received for dissent in an effort to keep him from serving a punishment.
Getafe has decided to appeal Mason Greenwood’s red card in the hopes of keeping him from serving a ban.
On Tuesday, Greenwood was sent off for dissent in the 50th minute of his team’s La Liga encounter against Rayo Vallecano. Allegedly, the assailant yelled out “f*ck you” to the referee; however, the official’s account to the Spanish league contrasted from Greenwood’s account of the occurrence.
According to Marca, Getafe have appealed the decision and are hoping to hear back soon so they can determine the severity of his sentence. But he isn’t the only one from Getafe in trouble; Damian Suarez and Juanmi Latasa were all sent off in the same match, while Jaime Mata received his fifth yellow card of the season in addition to a suspension.
Since joining Getafe on loan from Manchester United, Greenwood has been an outstanding player, contributing to the team’s success in La Liga with three goals scored and four assists in fifteen matches played. According to reports, the Madrid club reportedly offered him £40 million ($51 million) in the hopes of signing him permanently. Also rumored to be interested are Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, though the latter has reportedly backed out due to fan backlash following the dismissal of sexuаl аssаult and domestic abuse allegations against him.
After appealing, Getafe and the Englishman will be hoping for good news so that he may be a part of their upcoming matches again.
