Donny van de Beek isn’t playing like the ‘player he was at Ajax’ for Manchester United

When asked why Donny van de Beek isn’t playing like the “player he was at Ajax” for Manchester United, Erik ten Hag blamed injuries.

Erik ten Hag has stated that other players shouldn’t be discouraged from signing with Manchester United because of Donny van de Beek’s ruined stint due to ιnjury.

Since joining United from Ajax in the summer of 2020, Van de Beek, 26, has been loaned out to Eintracht Frankfurt until the end of the season. He has struggled to make an impression under three different managers, including Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick, and Ten Hag.

After spending three and a half years at Old Trafford on loan, the midfielder joined Everton for the second half of the 2021-22 season, but he was limited to just 23 games due to ιnjury. His transfer cost £35 million.

Even though Ten Hag and Van de Beek had worked together at Ajax, the midfielder’s return to Manchester did little to improve his situation.

The first thing Ten Hag mentioned was that he had a lot of injuries. He wasn’t the same player he was at Ajax due to ιnjury from the minute I stepped foot in Manchester United. Many times he was unavailable, and after suffering an аccident, he took a long time to get back on his feet.

That is likely the most important factor behind his absence from the game. Since we schedule appointments, negotiate contracts, and hire players for that role, his possibilities have been severely limited since we decided on a loan in the summer, but it never materialized. There was a lot of competing.

Several players, like Van de Beek, have signed lucrative contracts with United in recent seasons but have failed to live up to expectations. Jadon Sancho, a winger worth £72 million, is also on the verge of leaving on loan during this transfer window following a public spat with manager Antonio Ten Hag.

When questioned whether other people might be hesitant to move to Old Trafford after Van de Beek’s experience, Ten Hag disagreed.

He concluded by saying, “That is always on those players and how much confidence you have in your capabilities.” Having said that, I will warn you that the Premier League is no picnic. The pressure is always so intense at Man United, it’s hard to play there. It’s easier to play for nearly any other team.

That is something you must address. This is the greatest club to play for and the greatest task to face if you believe in yourself, though. It varies from player to player, and more specifically from one player’s personality and character.

On Monday night, United will play Wigan in a third-round FA Cup match, and Ten Hag will be leading the team.

In addition to being on the roster, Andre Onana should be eligible to play in next weekend’s match against Tottenham. After that, he will join Cameroon for the Africa Cup of Nations.

The journey to the DW Stadium, however, is an opportunity to give Altay Bayindir, Onana’s backup goalkeeper who joined the club in the summer from Fenerbahce, a taste of first-team action before he is required more frequently.

Despite benching Bayindir for the Carabao Cup before Christmas, Ten Hag maintained his confidence in his goalkeepers.

He did sаy that Andre would leave at a certain time. We built this group of keepers because we are completely at ease with this, and we are absolutely thrilled with it. They are both dependable goalkeepers with extensive experience at the professional level, so we have faith in them.

Not only do I think we have coverage, but I also think there’s a good chance that two or three of us will be competing with each other. If Andre is forced to go, we are certain that we are well-prepared and have a suitable alternative.
