Roy Keane blasted Rasmus Hojlund after the Manchester United youngster missed a series of chances against Wigan Athletic.
The Dane was called back into the starting XI for the first time since he scored the goal in United’s drаmаtic 3-2 home triumph over Aston Villa. Unfortunately for Erik ten Hag, the £72million summer addition, once again, struggled to convert any of his many chances against the League One club.
The 20-year-old saw three great chances come and go in the first half at the DW Stadium, with his third of the opening period proving to be particularly infuriating for United supporters. However, Keane, 52, was anything but sympathetic towards the former Atalanta forward.
After Roberto Martinez and Ian Wright both indicated they had sympathy for Hojlund, a cold Keane replied: “You’re too kind, you’re too kind. I’d be fuming with him. I’d be seething.
United have carried over their poor finishing and missed opportunities from the Premier League into tonight, which is disappointing because we were hoping to see a different side of their game.I wаnted to see another United tonight. With the striker, he is missing chances. “Unlucky” is a word we can use perpetually. They’re setting themselves up for goals; stop wasting time and score.
In the first half, Hojlund headed a lovely cross from Alejandro Garnacho over the cross-bar when he was only six yards out. A more unfortunate, but still poor miss, came just before the end of the opening period.
He was in the right place at the right moment when Marcus Rashford’s shot was pushed onto the Dane’s thigh by the goalie. Unfortunately, Hojlund could not react quickly enough and the ball Һit his knee, before bobbling wide of the goal.
Although Hojlund scored a plethora of goals in the Champions League, his record in other tournaments is far less impressive. The striker scored five goals in six appearances in Europe, but so far has just one goal in 15 Premier League appearances, and is yet to register a single assist since his £72m summer transfer from Atalanta.
