Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana will not play in Cameroon’s opening match in the African Cup of Nations and may not play in the tournament at all

The tournament begins on January 13, and Onana, United’s starting goalkeeper, is one of 27 players nominated to Cameroon’s roster.

United and Cameroon came to a deal that the 27-year-old would not leave until January 14, preventing him from missing as much as six games.

Because of this, Onana was able to start in United’s 2-0 FA Cup victory against Wigan Athletic on Monday and will be available for Sunday’s match against Tottenham.

According to iNews, Cameroon’s goalkeeper Onana was planning to start in goal for their first AFCON group match against Guinea on January 15. However, he may not even make it to the tournament, as he is reportedly not going to be able to make it in time for the match.

If Cameroon are eliminated in the group stage, United’s next encounter following Spurs is January 24, thus Onana will play every minute.

It is believed that Onana’s participation in the Cameroonian squad was influenced by the country’s president, and he maintains a chilly relationship with Samuel Eto’o, the head of the Cameroon FA.

After an argument with manager Rigobert Song at last year’s World Cup in Qatar, Onana withdrew from international duty; nevertheless, he made a triumphant return in September.

‘When he gets there, we have a great set of keepers with Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton so we are comfortable,’ United boss Erik ten Hag stated recently when asked about the prоspect of Onana leaving for AFCON.

We would greatly like it if Andre could be available more often, but if that isn’t possible, we have two capable goalkeepers on hand.
