Whenever you see a picture of Robert Downey Jr., he’s either dressed to the nines in a suit or looking kind of crazy and weird—in the best kind of way. However, he quietly announced his new menswear position yesterday. To be a sneakerhead is Robert Downey Jr.
As soon as Downey Jr. arrived at the Jimmy Kimmel Live! set in Los Angeles, he greeted the crowd, signed a few autographs, and gave the cameras some peace signals. He loved a crazy suit, but his civvies were just as loud. Wearing a green canvas bucket hat, a green T-shirt, and a green windbreaker with a camouflage pattern—yes, another green windbreaker—it was military fatigues for what has effectively become the tunnel walk that all the famous guys on the late-night TV circuit wear.
But what really got everyone pumped up were the items on his feet. When Downey Jr. opts for sneakers, he typically chooses ones from upscale brands. He’s fond of Celine. Givenchy appeals to him. He enjoys Marc Jacobs as well. But yesterday, he looked amazing in the Air Jordan 4 “Thunder,” which many sneakerheads consider to be the best Air Jordan ever made.
The original version of the “Thunder,” which was first released in 2006, returned this past summer. It has an all-black nubuck upper with electrifying yellow accents all over. Similar to the original from 2006, the medial and lateral sidewalls include mesh panels, and Nike’s highly regarded Air cushioning system is integrated into the sole. The fact that they practically sold out in a matter of seconds indicates how very popular this colorway was.
Now that Robert Downey Jr. has declared his admiration for Jumpman, StockX values could suddenly soar.
