Rasmus Hojlund has maintained his self-confidence despite the persistent criticism of his goal-scoring performances for Manchester United.
Hojlund scored United’s first goal in Sunday’s 2-2 home draw with Tottenham with a pinpoint finish. After collecting a loose ball in the penalty area, the 20-year-old rifled the ball into Guglielmo Vicario’s net.
Despite a more promising showing in the Champions League, Hojlund has been subject to growing criticism since scoring his second goal in 16 Premier League games. Still, the Dane has never wavered in his belief in his own abilities.
“We’re] A little bit disappointed,” he told Sky Sports. Our оffensive performance was particularly strong, in my opinion. We seem to be hitting it off. While we’re all feeling good about ourselves, we let in two goals that weren’t very good. Our attention needs to be slightly more directed. We discussed how we could improve, and they also got another opportunity thereafter.
There’s been a lot of talk about how I haven’t scored in the Premier League, but I’ve never let that discourage me. It has been a while, but I haven’t exactly been lacking in goal scoring either. On a daily basis, my teammates assist me. You can always rely on the self-assurance you gained from previous games. It comes naturally.
On that particular day, Richarlison pulled Tottenham even, but just before halftime, Marcus Rashford gave United the lead again. The attacker, who has also been struggling recently, set up Hojlund for a complex one-two before curling a beautiful shot into the far corner.
“I’m pleased to assist Rashford today,” Hojlund said of the England forward. “He’s feeding me all the time.”
United had the better chance to win it, despite Spurs’ domination in possession; nevertheless, Spurs equalized again just one minute into the second half through Rodrigo Bentancur.
In the dying minutes, midfielder Scott McTominay had a golden opportunity to score when he headed in a cross from Alejandro Garnacho, but his shot went high and wide of the post.
United are now in seventh place in the Premier League with a point, eight points behind fourth-place Arsenal, who have played one more game.
