Emma Stone won Best Actress at the Critics Choice Awards on Sunday, extending her winning run.

The actress, 35, was shocked to win in a very competitive category that featured Lily Gladstone’s ᴋɪʟʟᴇʀs of the Flower Moon, Sandra Hüller’s Anatomy of a Fall, Greta Lee’s Past Lives, Carey Mulligan’s Maestro, and Margot Robbie’s Barbie. She had also won at the Golden Globes.

She received the award for Poor Things Poor, in which Willem Dafoe’s character, a bright and unconventional scientist named Dr. Godwin Baxter, brings a woman back to life.

She stated in her victory speech that she had been motivated to attempt to unlearn any “shame and societal stuff” she may have carried throughout her life by her character.

She went on to make a dig at the Critics Choice Awards voting panel – a collection of entertainment writers – as she quipped: ‘I’m really grateful to the critics for this… I’m becoming better at letting go of your opinions!

Stone acknowledged each of her rivals separately as she opened her remarks.

She said, “To be honest, I had nothing planned to say because this is completely crazy.” This category is ridiculous.

Come on, Lily, come on. Margot. How in the heck about Carey? Alright. Sandra and Greta Huller. This is not logical at all.

I sincerely appreciate this. It implies to do so. I did mean business. I am at a loss for words.

Being Bella was one of the most enjoyable experiences. I got to unlearn some of the things. The humiliation and societal things that’s imposed on us.
