Man Utd ‘hold preliminary talks with golf club’ as chiefs’ Man City and Spurs view telling

Reportedly, Manchester United and a nearby golf club discussed the possibility of constructing a new training facility on the property, but their discussions were fruitless. Rumor has it that Manchester City and Tottenham have better training facilities than the Red Devils’ Carrington facility, and that this has the club’s upper management worried.
United have used Carrington as their training facility since 1999. Despite several enhancements, United leaders allegedly think the facility is reached its limit for more improvements. The Daily Mail reports that a number of golf clubs in south Manchester have been identified as potential locations.

To construct the type of facilities demanded by a club of United’s magnitude, the research asserts that a minimum of 100 acres of developable land is necessary. The urge to play catch-up has been sparked by the fact that numerous Premier League opponents have constructed world-class facilities since relocating to Carrington 25 years ago.

Purchasing the land from High Legh Park Golf Club has allegedly been discussed. However, sources say that the situation is still “fluid” and that an agreement has not been reached.
There is a 9-hole course, an 18-hole championship course, and a 24-bay floodlit driving range at High Legh. Last year, the course was placed up for sale, making it a potential location for a new training site. American Golf, located in Warrington, purchased it for £2.7 million in 2021.
Those in control of the project supposedly think the facility is a good fit for the new location. Its Knutsford location puts it in close proximity to the residences of numerous current United players.

Whether United intend to relocate the entire club is an unknown at this time. The men’s and women’s first teams may split up and practice at various locations, maybe even returning to their old Cliff training ground, while the academy stays put at Carrington. This is one of the scenarios supposedly explored.
The prevailing opinion, though, is that all of their teams should train at the same facility.

It is still unclear who will pay for the new training facility. Once Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s offer for a quarter of the club is approved in the next weeks, INEOS will likely take charge of the club’s sports department.

Ratcliffe made his return to Old Trafford on Sunday for the first time since the board approved his £1.4 billion purchase, when United drew Tottenham 2-2. The British tycoon is holding his breath until the Premier League owners and directors tell him he has passed their test.
