The Saudi government has generously agreed to fund the construction of a new stadium, which will be called the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Stadium, in anticipation of the 2034 World Cup.
Among the proposed structures is a massive LED wall with hundreds of meters of displays that will reveаl vistas from below ground.
Although the pitch and roof are retractable, the LED screens will be the main selling points due to the futuristic vibe they provide.
Positioned atop a 200-meter-high cliff close to Riyadh, the stadium will be cooled by a man-made lake constructed beneath it.
The Saudi Public Investment Fund is funding the stadium’s development via the Qiddiya Investment Company, and the architectural firm Populous is in charge of the project.
The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, widely considered to be one of Europe’s most cutting-edge stadiums, was also constructed by that same corporation.
The new Tottenham stadium opened in April of this year after finishing construction in 2019. It has a retractable football pitch with an NFL pitch underneath.
Despite the lack of American football-related elements, Al Nassr’s stadium will boast cutting-edge amenities.
“The futuristic venue aims to reinvent the traditional stadium concept,” the Qiddiya Investment Company announced after the plans were announced.
In order to precool the air conditioning system, the lake will utilize rainwater collected from the stadium and its surroundings.
With building still not underway, it appears doubtful that Ronaldo will be able to play at the stadium.
This summer’s Euros may be the last international event for the 38-year-old Portugal national team player, who joined with Al Nassr in December 2022.
The opening of the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Stadium is also scheduled for Al Nassr and Al Hilal to share the ground.
