Andre Onana, a goalie for Manchester United, will start Friday’s match between Cameroon and Senegal in the Africa Cup of Nations. Onana missed his team’s opening group match.
Due to fog, Onana’s private plane from Manchester to Ivory Coast had to turn around and land in Abidjan instead of Yamoussoukro, thus he arrived at the stadium three hours before kickoff on Monday, missing Cameroon’s Group C match against Guinea.
After weeks of talk about Onana’s potential departure from United to participate in AFCON, and following his performance in Sunday’s Premier League match against Tottenham, the 27-year-old’s 5,000-mile race felt like a letdown.
However, Onana will get his chance to shine in the match against Senegal, which will also take place at Yamoussoukro’s Charles Konan Banny Stadium.
Depending on United’s fate, Onana may sit out as many as four matches if Rigobert Song’s squad advances to the final on February 11 or none if they are eliminated in the group stage.
With one week to go until his £4.3 million summer transfer from Fenerbahce, his No. 2 Altay Bayindir is ready to make his debut away to Newport County in the FA Cup fourth round.
Bayindir told MUTV, “All the goalkeepers, we are always positive.” Erik ten Hag also has Tom Heaton to think about. Naturally, we are vying for a spot on the field, as every fan wants a chance to join the squad in the stadium.
Even though we’re competing for first place in training, we’re best friends when we’re outside.
Our energy is positive. Regardless of the team, we will always be there to cheer them on.
Cohesion among a team is crucial, you know. We have a good chance of winning the game if we continue like this. I believe we can always climb the ladder if that’s what we do.
Keepers aren’t the only ones it affects. There isn’t а bаd egg among us players, and we’ll never stop figҺting for this wonderful family.
