With his debut start for Borussia Dortmund, Jadon Sancho once again was the star of the show in the team’s 4-0 victory over FC Koln.
Donyell Malen scored for Dortmund barely 12 minutes into the game to calm any home-field anxiety. Dortmund wasted no time taking the lead. This was the Dutchman’s first goal of the match; he scored it from a Julian Brandt corner.
Sancho terrorized the Koln defense and earned a penalty shortly after halftime, leveling the score. After getting past one defender, Sancho was brought down by full-back Rasmus Carstensen, which allowed Niklas Fullkrug to score a penalty kιck to double the lead 58 minutes into the game.
Ian Maatsen, a youngster on loan from Chelsea, sent up Malen for his second goal just three minutes later, increasing the lead to 3-0. Youssoufa Moukoko scored an extra goal in stoppage time after Jamie Bynoe-Gittens set him up for it.
Sancho, who has been outstanding in his first two games back with Dortmund, will once again be the center of attention, even though Malen scored twice.
Sancho, who was benched at Manchester United, made a great impact in his second start against Darmstadt, setting up Marco Reus for a goal after coming on in the second half. In his first start of the season, he showed off his speed and skill against the defense, which ultimately resulted in the penalty that sealed the deal.
Sancho has transformed since his return to Dortmund, becoming far more like the youngster United acquired a few years back, as opposed to the one who was eventually benched and shut out by Erik ten Hag. The addition of another attacking weapon gives Dortmund a boost as they keep figҺting for a spot in the Champions League and Bundesliga this season.
