In reaction to rumors circulating over Marcus Rashford, Manchester United have issued a statement.
Rashford missed Friday’s training session owing to sickness, following reports of his appearances in Belfast nightclubs on Wednesday and Thursday.
The 26-year-оld allegedly hit up Lavery’s Bar оn Wednesday and Thоmpsоn’s Garage the fоllоwing day, accоrding tо a stоry in The Athletic.
“He reported ill,” Erik ten Hag remarked in his pregame press conference versus Newport of League Two on Sunday, but he would not provide any other details. Assuming it’s a personal issue, I’ll take care of it. It’s not about the outside world.
The Athletic reports that Erik ten Hag, football director John Murtough, and Rashford’s agent Dwaine Maynard met at Carrington on Monday morning to review the events of last week in Northern Ireland.
And in a statement issued late Monday night, Manchester United confirmed that Marcus Rashford is fit to play for United against Wolves on Thursday after returning to training.
The statement stated that Marcus had accepted responsibility for his acts. “The internal disciplinary matter involving this has been resolved and is now closed.”
The Sun reports that Rashford will be fined £650,000 (two weeks’ pay).
Alan Shearer, a former striker for Newcastle United, has been among many who have voiced their disapproval at Rashford’s benching and urged the player not to squander his abilities.
“If it’s an internal matter, you’d think something is up,” he told BBC Sport during Erik ten Hag’s pre-match interview on Sunday.
With Marcus Rashford, there’s a tremendous amount of potential. Disciplinary action was taken against him last season for being tardy to a pregame meeting, but something is obviously wrong with him, either at home or by the football club.
Because it’s wrong, he must stop squandering his potential and do something else. Someone needs to take charge and warn him that if he keeps doing this, he will be very sorry when his career comes to a close.
