Copying Cristiano Ronaldo’s ‘Siu’ celebration, the Al-Hilal star dances in Lionel Messi’s path

During Al-Hilal’s 4-3 win over Inter Miami—a team led by Lionel Messi—a top player hit Cristiano Ronaldo’s famous “Siu” celebration.

Hilal, who are on winter break, and Miami, who are preparing for the start of the 2024 season, were placed against each other in a friendly match between the Saudi Pro League and MLS on Monday (January 29) night.

In the Middle East, the hosts took an early lead through Aleksandar Mitrovic, a former Fulham striker, and Abdullah Al Hamadan extended the lead. After rejoining Messi, Luis Suarez scored his first goal for Miami, cutting the lead in half.

Before halftime, though, Brazilian forward Michael scored again with a header, and then he followed in Ronaldo’s footsteps by racing to the corner flag.

The ‘Siu’ is something Michael frequently does; he even did it earlier this season while Ronaldo was on the field in the Arab Club Champions Cup against Al-Nassr, which may have been interpreted as an act of contempt toward his long-time adversary Messi.

After the restart, Messi wasted little time getting even, scoring from the penalty spot. A minute later, he set up David Ruiz, another teammate, to score an equalizer.

Hilal were able to pull off the victory in the end because Malcom, who had previously played with Messi at Barcelona, scored the game-winning goal with just two minutes left in regulation time.

In Thursday’s (February 1) preseason match against Al-Nassr as part of the Riyadh Season Cup, Ronaldo, an eight-time Ballon d’Or winner, will face up against his Miami counterpart.

‘The Last Dance’ is the moniker given to the match between the two legends of the game, a title that was also given to their summertime friendly. Messi, 36, has a deal that extends for two more MLS seasons, while Ronaldo, 38, seems determined to keep playing for the time being.
