Marcus Rashford ‘barely speaking’ to Erik ten Hag after private meeting with Man Utd boss.
Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has had a difficult season. It’s now been revealed that he doesn’t often talk to Erik ten Hag because of something that happened last month.
Following Marcus Rashford’s Manchester United striker trip to Belfast earlier this month, Erik ten Hag and Rashford are “barely talking”.
Last month, on a day off, 26-year-old Rashford visited a former teammate in Northern Ireland. It was later discovered, though, that the England player had engaged in binge drinking. The United attacker then failed to report for duty at training and was dropped off the team for an FA Cup match against Newport County a few days later.
Rashford was fined two weeks’ wages and added back to the squad for United’s next game against Wolves, following reports that he “took responsibility for his actions.” However, it seems like Ten Hag and Rashford have not communicated well since then.
It was reported in a recent Sun piece that since the event, they are ‘barely on speaking terms’. Ten Hag feels that by reporting sick, Rashford ‘tried to deceive him’. He was so furious that he allegedly invited Rashford in for a covert meeting to justify his actions.

According to the article, some staff members are “worried” that Ten Hag and Rashford’s relationship has “broken down permanently” as pressure grows on them. The latter has been terribly disappointing this season. He scored 30 goals in the 2022–2023 season and won a handsome new deal in the summer.
Ten Hag, on the other hand, oversaw United’s worst start to a season in decades and, after just one season, will not have a contract. Nor does it seem inevitable that the new co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, will keep him around for the long run.
Rumors have been circulating this week that Ten Hag’s job as head coach may be terminated and a new one hired by Ineos, who now manage the team’s athletic endeavors.

Gary Neville, a former defender for Manchester United, thinks Ten Hag’s destiny has already been decided. He stated on Monday on Sky Sports: “They’re going to make a choice, I think, fairly fast, if not already. If you look at the guy [Omar Berrada], who has come in from City as CEO and they’re obviously wanting to get Dan Ashworth in from Newcastle.
“I imagine Dave Brailsford and Jim Ratcliffe already know if they want to retain Erik ten Hag as manager for the upcoming campaign. It’s unbelievable that they’ll put off making that decision until May only to let themselves fall short.
“In the past ten years, Manchester United has been exposed for its poor decision-making, tardiness, and lack of foresight in both on-and off-field recruitment. They won’t do that, in my opinion.”
“I think they have probably already reached a conclusion,” he said in closing. They might even stick to their decision regardless of Champions League status.”
