This spring, Jonathan India has not yet performed. The 2021 National League Rookie of the Year battled plantar fasciitis over the winter, which caused him to lose time during the previous season. India’s preparation for spring training was delayed as a result, but he has been making progress, and Cincinnati Reds manager David Bell informed Charlie Goldsmith of the Cincinnati Enquirer that India is expected to make his debut on Friday.
The Reds and Los Angeles Dodgers will meet on Friday night at 8:05 p.m. ET. MLB Network will have that game available for viewing. Watching where Jonathan India plays would be interesting. Throughout his big league career, he has exclusively played second base. He played third base in college and had time at second and third (as well as a very tiny amount of time at shortstop) in the minor leagues. He has been playing second base and in the corner outfield spots for Cincinnati because Matt McLain appears to have taken India’s daily second base job.
India will presumably be the designated hitter in addition to playing a few spots in rotation for the Reds for the time being. He might still receive a lot of playing time by being mixed and matched against different kinds of pitchers and filling in when other players need a day off, but it’s a role that a number of other players on the team will also be performing. Finding adequate playing time for a few guys who are platooning along with India will be a challenging task for David Bell and his coaching staff, assuming everyone stays reasonably fit.
A new Reds Top 30 Prospect List
On Tuesday, the staff at MLB Pipeline unveiled its list of the Top 30 Cincinnati Reds prospects for 2024. Four more Reds prospects cracked the Top 100, with Noelvi Marte taking the top spot on the list. However, you may click this link to view the list and learn a little something about the other 25 players if you’re interested. Three players from the 2023 draft and two more from the club’s January international signings are among the five players on the list who have not yet made their professional debut.
