Reds’ Elly De La Cruz Signs Teammate’s Car Window That He Smashed in Batting PracticeDe La Cruz added “property damage” to his list of accomplishments.
Elly De La Cruz, an infielder with the Cincinnati Reds, may be starting his second season, but he still possesses the skill and capacity to wow teammates and supporters.
Exhibit A: The activities of February 20, the day De La Cruz began including “property damage” among his accomplishments.
During live batting practice against pitcher Hunter Greene, De La Cruz used a foul ball to smash the rear driver’s side window of his teammate’s SUV.
De La Cruz responded to Greene’s joking suggestion that the infielder pay for damages, saying, “You make more than me.”
De La Cruz and Greene got together on Thursday to remember the amusing incident.
Underneath the car window’s baseball-shaped divot, both players autographed the broken piece.
The 22-year-old De La Cruz is hoping to build on his 13 home run and 35 base steal performance from his 98-game rookie season, which made him the face of a revitalized Reds club.
Greene, on the other hand, is starting his third season with Cincinnati after finishing 4–7 with a 4.82 ERA in 2023, albeit with a marginally higher strikeout rate per nine innings.
