Although legendary player Margaret Court holds the overall record with 24 Slams, it’s noteworthy that 13 of hers were achieved during the Amateur Era, prior to 1968. Serena’s Grand Slam victories are distributed as follows: seven at the Australian Open, three at the French Open, seven at Wimbledon, and six at the US Open. Notably, Serena’s seven Australian Open titles rank her highest among all players in the Open era, trailing only Margaret Court’s 11, which includes both Open and Amateur era wins.

Additionally, her six US Open triumphs tie her for the most won by a female player in the Open era, a record she shares with compatriot Chris Evert. Serena Williams burst onto the Grand Slam scene at the 1998 Australian Open at the age of just 16. Despite an early exit following a defeat by her older sister Venus in the second round, this match marked the inception of the iconic Williams sisters rivalry that would captivate tennis fans worldwide.

Serena Williams clinched her first Wimbledon and French Open victories in 2002, followed by her inaugural Australian Open triumph in 2003. Notably, in each of these three finals, her elder sister Venus stood as her opponent. Consequently, by the age of 22, Serena Williams had already secured a Career Grand Slam, winning each of the four Grand Slam titles at least once.

Further enhancing her legacy, Serena achieved a Career Golden Slam by adding the women’s singles gold medal at the London 2012 Olympics to her list of accolades. This accomplishment, which entails winning all four Grand Slam titles and an Olympic gold medal, had only been previously attained by German tennis legend Steffi Graf.

In a memorable moment at the 2016 Wimbledon Championships, Serena Williams matched Steffi Graf’s record of 22 Grand Slam singles titles in the Open Era. This milestone came after defeating another German player, Angelique Kerber, in the final. Notably, Kerber had earlier thwarted Serena’s bid for the record by defeating her in the final of the Australian Open earlier that same year.
