Behind the Spotlight: Tom Holland and Zendaya Open Up on the Complexities of Celebrities’s Love in the Public Eye

Tom Holland and Zendaya are getting open about handling relationships while in the public glare.

In an interview for GQ’s Me𝚗 of the Year edition, Holland discussed his friendship with Zendaya and his wish to keep his personal life sеcrеt. During the summer, the 25-year-old costars of Spider-Man: No Way Home were seen cuddling up in a car together.

“One of the downsides of our fаme is that privacy isn’t really in our control anymore, and a moment that you think is between two people that love each other very much is now a moment that is shared with the entire world,” Holland told the news organization.

“I share so much of my life with the world anyway, so I’ve always been really adamant to keep my private life private,” he continued. Kind of like we had been robbed of our privacy. It’s not about not being ready, in my opinion. Simply put, we were unwilling to.”

Zendaya has been “instrumental” in Holland’s life over the past few years, he gushed to GQ. The Euphoria actress said to the magazine that it is “confusing and invasive” for people to see a peek of her private life.

The actress told the publication, “The equal sentiment [we both share] is just that when you really love and care about somebody, there are moments or things you wish were your own.” “I think loving someone is a sacred thing and a special thing and something that you want to deal with and go through and experience and enjoy amongst the two people that love each other.”

Holland continued, hoping to maintain the privacy of their personal lives, saying that the two will talk about disclosing information about their relationship at the appropriate moment.

“This is not my narrative. It is our narrative. And when the time comes for us to discuss it collectively, we’ll talk about what it is,” he stated.

In July 2017, a source revealed to PEOPLE that Zendaya and Holland were romantically linked.

The informant claimed, “They started dating while they were filming Spider-Man.” “They’ve been suρer careful to keep it private and out of the public eye but they’ve gone on vacations with each other and try and spend as much time as possible with one another.”

Another source said, “They push each other and are both very ambitious, but what matters most is that they make each other laugh.” They enjoy making jokes together and seem to have quite similar senses of humor. They exchange very funny jokes with one other.”

In an October interview with InStyle editor-in-chief Laura Brown for the publication’s yearly Best Dressed issue and podcast, Zendaya also couldn’t resist gushing about Holland.

When questioned about her co-star on Spider-Man, Zendaya responded, “There are many things, obviously, that I appreciate,” about Holland.

She continued by telling Brown why she believes Holland is a great actor: “I like that, from an actor’s perspective, he genuinely enjoys playing Spider-Man. You have a lot of pressure because you always have to act like a superhero.”

No Way Home, Zendaya and Holland’s third Spider-Man film together, hits theaters on December 17.
