Rihanna is the second woman in Barbados history to be given the honor of National Hero: The symbol of compassion and charitable hearts for disadvantaged areas both domestically and internationally

Barbados marked a historic milestone on Monday by transitioning away from its 55-year association with the Queen as head of state and officially declaring itself a republic.

Shortly after this significant move, Rihanna was recognized with the National Hero Award, adding to the celebratory atmosphere of the Caribbean island nation’s new status. This accolade makes her only the second woman in Barbadian history to receive the prestigious title of National Hero, following in the footsteps of religious figure Sarah Ann Gill, who passed away in 1866.

On Tuesday, Rihanna exuded elegance as she joyfully received her National Hero insignia at the Barbados Republican festivities in Bridgetown. The 33-year-old multi-talented figure, now a successful entrepreneur, chose a striking ensemble for the event held at the Golden Square Freedom Park. Dazzling in a plunging white mini dress paired with a matching blazer, she captivated onlookers with her stylish attire. Rihanna showcased her toned legs in the thigh-skimming outfit while accepting her medal from President Dame Sandra Mason. Following this momentous occasion, she delivered a speech at the National Honors ceremony.

During the persisting pandemic, the celebrity opted for a black face mask, ensuring safety measures, while her dark hair was fashioned into stylish chunky plaits. Rihanna later removed her mask as she approached the podium to address the audience, following her achievement as the second woman in Barbadian history to be bestowed with the esteemed title of National Hero, following the footsteps of religious leader Sarah Ann Gill, who passed away in 1866.
