The Cincinnati Reds got back into the win column on Saturday in what is technically their final home game of spring training. But more importantly, everyone stayed healthy on Saturday in their win over the Colorado Rockies.

Game Recap: Reds 6 – Rockies 2

The Cincinnati Reds took an early lead on Saturday afternoon. Frankie Montas five off five strong innings and the offense played add on to their lead while hitting four home runs before the bullpen came on and shut the Rockies down over the final four innings.

The Highlights

The Cincinnati Reds’ defense did not shine in the first inning. Although Frankie Montas recorded a fly out on the following ball, Tyler Stephenson’s pop-up bounce off his glove did not actually hurt the team. However, Jake Fraley moved back to first base after the following hitter hit a fly ball to right field, and when he did, he misplayed the ball again, allowing it to pass by him and result in a triple on a ball that was easily caught. After that, Montas struck out two straight times to leave the runner stranded.

The Reds took the lead on the third pitch of the bottom of the second inning when Jake Fraley sent a single home run to the right field bleachers.

Later in the inning, singles by Christian Encarnacion-Strand, Santiago Espinal, and Jeimer Candelario made it 2-0. Cincinnati would then add more. After Jeimer Candelario hit his first home run of the spring two innings later, the Reds added another run.

The Rockies overcame starter Frankie Montas in the top of the fifth inning. Alan Trejo hit a two-run home run following a leadoff single to trim the Reds’ lead to 3-2. In his 5.0 innings that day, he would give up just those two runs, and in the afternoon, he recorded six strikeouts.

In the bottom of the inning, Cincinnati would recover for both of those runs. Will Benson drew a walk with one out, and Elly De La Cruz made it 5-2 with a home run on the opposite field. The lead was subsequently increased by a run when Spencer Steer hit a solo home run of his own.

That would be the end of the day’s scoring. From there, Cincinnati closed the game and secured the victory with innings pitched by Tony Santillan, Justin Wilson, Lucas Sims, and Alexis Diaz.

Jeimer Canderlario with a 3-3 day’s total. With two walks, Christian Encarnacion-Strand finished 2-2. After striking out three batters in the sixth inning, Tony Santillan now has 13 strikeouts in 7.0 innings this spring without giving up an earned run.
