Venus Williams wants to compete with Serena at the WTA Tour in doubles, but has not received her sister’s consent.

Serena officially hung up her racket on September 2, after stopping in the third round of the US Open women’s singles. She and her sister Venus had previously lost the opening round of women’s doubles. Serena ended her 26-year career with 23 Grand Slam singles titles out of 73 championships.

Besides their illustrious singles career, the Williams sisters are one of the most successful female couples in history. They won 14 Grand Slams, won Olympic gold medals in 2000, 2008 and 2012. Venus, 42 years old, thinks that she and her sister can still play together in the coming years because this content does not require much physical strength.

“We really played well despite being eliminated early at the US Open,” Venus said about her latest doubles match with her sister on her Youtube channel. “We were a bit out of breath, there were times when it took 10 minutes to keep the serve game. But I couldn’t be more satisfied because it was the first time in six years that we played side by side.”

Venus said Serena really wants to get out of tennis to develop herself in other fields. But, the Williams sister still hopes her younger sister will accept the invitation to return to play doubles.

After leaving the US Open, Serena posted a photo sleeping in bed on Sunday, September 4, her first day off without worrying about tennis. But, the soon-to-be 41-year-old tennis player has not completely closed the door on his favorite sport. “You never know. Maybe I’ll go back to playing tennis one day,” she said.

This year’s US Open is the first Grand Slam since 2003 without Serena, Rafael Nadal , Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer in the quarterfinals of the two singles events. In 2020, the “Big 3” were not present in the men’s singles quarterfinals, but Serena reached the women’s singles semifinals.
