PE PeterThe Major League Baseball season is back in action for the next seven months with the arrival of Opening Day. Star player Fernando Tatis Jr. of the San Diego Padres is giving a touching reference to the team’s late owner, Peter Seidler, as he begins the 2024 MLB season. Tatis has teamed up with Nick Drbal of XAMPLE and Surgeon to go on a season-long quest to don over 50 unique cleats, each of which represents a memory or a gesture of respect. Tatis previously wore a set of special shoes in honor of the Korea Series.

The Air Jordan 1 Mid R.I.P. Peter, a unique pair created in memory of Seidler, who passed away in November 2023, will launch Opening Day. This cleat is unique in that it is finely crafted, with etched leather embellished with images of Seidler, signifying his lasting influence on Tatis’ life. The slogan “I BELIEVE IN HIM,” which reflects Seidler’s unshakable faith in Tatis, is also engraved into the leather of the cleat, adding to the strong bond between the player and the deceased owner.

The cleats, which draw inspiration from the stunning scenery of San Diego, are made of veg-tan leather, which was selected for its superior quality and ability to develop a lovely patina with time. The leather has a mosaic that is masterfully laser-engraved to capture the essence of San Diego’s coastal moods. The design perfectly combines the city’s natural beauty with the spirit of its cherished baseball team.

On Opening Day, Tatis will be wearing cleats when he takes the field at home against the Giants. View pictures of the customized cleats below, and download the Sole Retriever app to stay up to date on the newest events in the streetwear and sneaker industries.
