Rihanna is placing a strong emphasis on connecting with her cultural heritage as she raises her two sons.
In an interview with Vogue China, the 36-year-old singer of “Disturbia” explained the significance of hair braiding to her, highlighting its role in self-expression and creative exploration throughout her life. Since becoming a mother to her sons RZA, aged 22 months, and Riot, aged 7 months, with her partner A$AP Rocky, 35, Rihanna has found that the importance of hair has grown even more profound.
According to Rihanna, braiding holds ancestral significance, serving as a form of protection passed down through generations. She believes it is a vital part of their heritage that reconnects them with their roots and history. As a result, she was eager for her children to embrace braiding as a reflection of their cultural identity, considering it an integral aspect of their heritage.
In August, sources confirmed to PEOPLE that Rihanna and Rocky welcomed a second baby boy, son Riot Rose, to the family. In the fall, the famous couple posed for a series of adorable photos that featured the couple’s newborn baby, as well as son RZA.
Rihanna held baby Riot while Rocky carried the couple’s older son on his shoulders, posing together for the first time as a family of four. RZA, who wore the newly released FENTY x Puma Avanti in aged silver, donned an adorable miniature leather jacket. The musician was also photographed carrying her newborn alone as she leaned up against a car.
Other pictures featured the happy couple playing with Riot on a blanket while he grinned up at his parents.
In an interview with Page Six in December, Rihanna opened up about her relationship with Rocky, noting that their connection has gotten deeper since the couple welcomed their two kids together.
“I love him differently as a dad. This is major, major…it’s a turn on,” she told the outlet. “It’s just like, wow. What a leader, what a great, patient loving…and my kids are obsessed with him.”
