Rumors of an alleged affair between Jay Z and Rihanna have plagued the rapper’s marriage with Beyonce for years, but according to a new tell-all, chatter of his infidelity caused the power couple to secretly “split for a year.”

In J. Randy Taraborrelli’s book “Becoming Beyoncé,” he wrote that Jay’s rumored fling with RiRi when she was 17 and a still rising star was “total fiction,” but that didn’t stop Bey from getting upset.

“Beyoncé didn’t know what to make of this, and it actually ended up breaking them up for a time,” the book read. “They spent maybe a year apart from each other because Beyoncé just wasn’t sure of what to make of the situation with Rihanna.”

According to the tell-all, the cheating rumors were made up as a PR stunt to further Rihanna’s career, though “it’s safe to say that Rihanna and Beyoncé are friends”

Though the rumors began during the early stages of Rihanna’s career, the book said that Beyonce was still mad years later, causing the infamous elevator fight in 2014 with her sister, Solange and the PR disaster to follow.

“People told me that there was a whispered argument that night having to do with Jay wanting to go to a party for Rihanna,” he said. “Beyoncé did what Beyoncé does. She laid down the law . . . it was a whispered married couple’s argument that would’ve gone by completely unnoticed had not Solange overheard it.”
