Zendaya recounted, “She was like, ‘I know there definitely weren’t real [tennis] balls,'” acknowledging Williams’ keen eye for detail. “She knows. She’s the best of the best.”

The Dune: Part Two actress went on to reveal that Williams also offered some praise, noting, “She did say that it was great considering that I had never, never touched a tennis ball before.”

The romantic sports comedy, featuring Mike Faist and Josh O’Connor alongside Zendaya, centers on “three players who knew each other when they were teenagers as they compete in a tennis tournament to be the world-famous grand slam winner and reignite old rivalries on and off the court,” according to the film’s synopsis.

Zendaya had previously expressed her apprehension about Serena Williams witnessing her tennis skills, admitting to Entertainment Tonight that she had “apologized in advance” to Williams and her sister Venus Williams.

At the Los Angeles premiere of Challengers earlier this week, the Euphoria star disclosed to The Hollywood Reporter that she received guidance from her Dune co-star Timothée Chalamet regarding working with director Luca Guadagnino. Chalamet had previously collaborated with Guadagnino on the 2017 film Call Me By Your Name.

“Timothée said wonderful things,” Zendaya, who is also a producer on the film, revealed. “Luca is brilliant, and I’ve wanted to work with Luca for a very long time, and this just seemed like the absolute perfect thing.”

Challengers is set to hit theaters on April 26.
