In an intimate conversation with PEOPLE, Spider-Man actors Tom Holland and Jacob Batalon discuss their tight-knit bond, both behind the scenes and in front of the camera, leading up to the premiere of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Since landing the roles of Peter Parker and Ned Leeds in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, Holland and Batalon were challenged by director Jon Watts to develop a genuine best-friend dynamic, a connection that effortlessly blossomed between them. “We just clicked,” reminisces Batalon, pondering their immediate camaraderie.
Their friendship blossomed off-screen, with Batalon even moving in with Holland during filming, creating cherished memories captured in a scrapbook of Polaroids. As they navigated newfound fame together, alongside Zendaya, their bond deepened, forming a tight-knit trio that leaned on each other for support.
“For a young kid, fame takes a while to figure out. We were lucky to have each other,” acknowledges Holland, with Batalon echoing the sentiment. Their shared experiences on set and off have forged lifelong connections, with Holland expressing gratitude for the life-changing opportunities the Spider-Man franchise has provided.
As they embark on the possibility of parting ways after this film, both stars reflect on the profound impact the franchise has had on their lives. “This job is more than a job — it’s changed our lives,” says Holland. “We’re so lucky to be where we are, and to be doing it with your mates is what makes it really special.”
