Man United has set a deadline for deciding whether to build a new stadium in place of Old Trafford
Should they move forward with building a new stadium, Manchester United is looking into options to retain portions of the present Old Trafford stadium, possibly for the women’s and academy teams. Following a recent evaluation, United minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants the team to make a decision on stadium plans by December. The billionaire from petrochemicals is personally in favor of building a new stadium with 100,000 seats close to the current Old Trafford.
This could indicate that portions of the former stadium are kept for use by teams other than the men’s first squad, but it also serves as an important acknowledgement of the club’s illustrious past.
A new, cutting-edge arena to be built next to a reduced version of Old Trafford is one of the romantic plans gaining traction for the site, according to sources close to the Independent.
