A setback for Manchester United in Jonathan Claus’s chase

Jonathan Clauss rejected Manchester United’s approach to sign him, and he has since decided to sign with OGC Nice. L’Equipe claims that Manchester United’s attempt to sign Jonathan Clauss was unsuccessful. The 31-year-old French international has now joined OGC Nice from Marseille after declining a transfer to Old Trafford.

Manchester United’s attempt to use Jonathan Clauss failed. In addition to being in the market for a full-back, Manchester United was reportedly considering left-back options as well. Luke Shaw is struggling to stay healthy, and Tyrell Malacia’s return to full fitness is not certain, thus there are serious questions regarding the possible candidates for that role.

Despite Shaw making the England squad for the Euros and starting the Final, the latter never fully recovered from his injury and did not play a minute of football last season. Archie Brown of KAA Gent was a target, but things appear to have calmed down.

Jonathan Clauss, a 31-year-old French international, seemed to have been approached by Manchester United earlier in the transfer window, but he declined the offer to move to Old Trafford. Since then, the adaptable full-back left Marseille for OGC Nice in a rumored 5 million dollar transaction.

Clauss’s primary motivation for moving to Manchester United, according to the report, was how simple the project was in Nice. The fact that INEOS connects the two teams may contribute to the player’s overall interest. Manchester United’s necessity for a left-back is under debate, particularly as their next season draws near.

What left-back does Manchester United need? Despite being a left-back by trade, Clauss can play both flanks, which may have been a major factor in Manchester United’s interest in the Frenchman. The former Marseille player’s profile is comparable to that of Bayern Munich’s Noussair Mazraoui, who the Red Devils are close to signing.

If left-back issues continue, Mazraoui’s presence could relieve some of the strain on Erik ten Hag because Diogo Dalot is still a good option to play in the right-back role. Manchester United may not need to buy a specialist left-back this summer if Ten Hag decides to stick with the Moroccan until his starting left-backs are fully fit again.
