Youssouf Fofana’s transfer to Manchester United has begun with preliminary negotiations with Monaco

The club has ended talks to sign Manuel Ugarte, who was previously interested in joining Paris Saint-Germain. Despite the £52 million asking price, they have no plans to match it.

According to Sky Sports today, United have reportedly started preliminary conversations with Monaco regarding the recruitment of Youssouf Fofana, a France international, as one of the alternative options they are considering.

For United, Fofana would be an excellent acquisition. The Red Devils were interested in signing Ugarte, but they are hesitant to pay the transfer fee.

The team is currently looking into other options. The Red Devils would be wise to sign Fofana because of his solid defensive skills, which would serve them well in the Premier League.

Last season, Fofana averaged 7.2 recoveries, 4.7 duels won per game, and two tackles won per game. His high pressing and 60% dribble completion rate were both impressive.

While the Frenchman’s relentless work rate more than makes up for his possession-lossing tendencies, it is nevertheless noticeable. Casemiro and Scott McTominay may use his improvement.United should be able to afford Monaco’s new asking price of £30 million, which they increased to last month. The club’s imminent pursuit of a deal would not surprise us in the least.

Fofana is still on the cusp of his playing career’s peak at the age of 25. His signing would be a significant improvement over Sander Berge’s, who had a middling first season with Burnley.
