Defending Chelsea player ‘added’ to Crystal Palace wish list as Marc Guehi controversy continues
Since joining the Eagles three seasons ago, the 24-year-old has become a vital first-team player, making 111 appearances across all competitions. He began his career with Chelsea.
The central defender Guehi was a star performer as England advanced to the final of Euro 2024, earning a call-up to the squad earlier this summer in recognition of his outstanding play for Palace.
Since then, rumors have circulated linking Palace’s No. 6 to a number of Premier League and international powerhouses, with Newcastle United supposedly in the driver’s seat to sign him.
After having their first offer for Guehi, who is reportedly worth more than Β£60 million, rejected by the Eagles, the Magpies are reportedly planning to make a second, better offer. The Daily Telegraph states that if Newcastle agrees to buy Guehi from Palace, the club will look into signing Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah.
The 25-year-old is reportedly one of several alternatives being considered by Palace, along with Maxence Lacroix of Wolfsburg and Oliver Glasner, who was the head coach of the Eagles.
Although he only played 17 times during the injury-plagued 2023β24 season, Chalobah has been a Chelsea player since he was eight years old and has made 80 appearances for the first team in all competitions.
The versatile defender is rumoured to be available for transfer after being left out of Chelsea’s pre-season trip to the US earlier this summer. The Blues are reported to value him at roughly Β£25 million.Chalobah has been working with Chelsea’s development and Under-21 teams as of late, although he is no longer in head coach Enzo Maresca’s plans for the main team.
Aston Villa, Fulham, and maybe Tottenham Hotspur are rumored to be interested in acquiring Chalobah this summer, in addition to Palace, according to The Telegraph.
Allegedly, Chalobah turned down a permanent agreement to join Nottingham Forest last year, despite the fact that he still has four years left on the Chelsea contract he was given less than two years ago.
Palace have already added a central defender to their roster this summer, bringing in 20-year-old Chadi Riad from Barcelona for approximately Β£14 million. Riad will compete for starting roles with Rob Holding, Chris Richards, Joachim Andersen, and Chris Richards.
