It has been verified by Erik ten Hag that Ruud van Nistelrooy’s return to Manchester United extends beyond the coaching of attackers.

After a disappointing season overall, fans are looking forward to seeing how Van Nistelrooy—who scored 150 goals in just five years at Old Trafford—will affect the team.

Along with fellow newcomer Rene Hake, the Dutchman will be working as an assistant coach under Ten Hag. He has prior experience as a head coach at PSV Eindhoven.

“He will have an impact on the strikers, but he will also work in other areas so it’s not only limited to the strikers,” Ten Hag reported to Sky Sports.

I believe the forwards will reap the most benefits from it, but he and Rene Hake will be the team’s motors. These two coaches have extensive managerial experience between them. In order to prepare a team to win games and trophies, they are experts in coaching, motivating, and challenging their players. Their addition to our team is greatly appreciated.Last year, Benni McCarthy, a striker for Ajax, Porto, and West Ham United, was assigned to train United’s forwards. On top of his other duties, Van Nistelrooy will take on that duty alongside Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund, and Joshua Zirkzee.

“He will help all the players, but in particular, of course the strikers can take benefit from him because he was such a great striker,” said Ten Hag.

“He scored so many goals, he had so much success, so definitely he will help the strikers in different areas and definitely on the mental side, bringing over his desire to win games and by scoring goals.”

Paul Scholes, a former teammate of Van Nistelrooy’s, has been quite effusive in his praise of the contributions that the Premier League and La Liga champion will bring to the table.

It’s fantastic to have him back at the club and part of the team. To be sure, Scholes has managed and coached on his own,” he told ManUtd.com. “United players who were there when they were successful; know how to win, know what it takes and, hopefully, they can transfer a bit of knowledge to these players who haven’t quite made it yet.”

Out of the two assistants that worked with Ten Hag last season, Steve McClaren has taken on a slightly different job as senior first-team coach, while Mitchell van der Gaag has departed Old Trafford to seek a head coaching career.
