Manchester United’receive significant defensive injury boost’ before of Man City game

Erik ten Hag has been forced to assess the cost of the Red Devils’ tour of the United States, which concluded with a humiliating 3-0 defeat to Arne Slot’s Liverpool earlier this month.

Tyrell Malacia, a long-term knee injury, and Leny Yoro, who suffered a metatarsal fracture against Arsenal, were both ruled out of the game.

Meanwhile, Harry Maguire sat out the loss against the Reds as a precaution, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, and Jonny Evans all failed to complete the full 90 minutes.

Ten Hag might have been without as many as six rearguard members for Saturday’s meeting with City, who are out for vengeance after last season’s 2-1 FA Cup setback. Luke Shaw, who is also injured, has only recently returned from his post-Euro 2024 holiday.Harry Maguire is ‘included’ in the Manchester United squad. However, according to The Mirror, Maguire has been certified fit for the match and is one of 21 players named to the team for the annual curtain-raiser.

Despite being removed of the armband by Erik ten Hag during his drop in fortunes, Maguire has subsequently experienced a redemption arc at Old Trafford, starting 18 Premier League matches and four Champions League games last season.

Maguire missed out on representing England at Euro 2024 due to a calf injury, but he has recovered in time to face the Premier League champions.

Maguire is one of just three centre-backs available to Ten Hag for the match, along with Evans (who has recovered from illness) and Copa America champion Lisandro Martinez.

While the 31-year-old has returned, important scorer Rasmus Hojlund is out with a hamstring injury, while Will Fish was stretchered off against Liverpool with an impact injury.
