Manchester United were defeated on penalties by their cross-town rivals Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley.
Substitute Alejandro Garnacho broke the deadlock in the 82nd minute with a spectacular goal, but City equalized seven minutes later through Bernardo Silva.
It came down to a penalty shootout, and the reigning Premier League champions won.
United had 44% possession against City’s 56%. Erik ten Hag’s men took eight shots, two of which were on target.

Casemiro had a disappointing 2023/24 season, with strong evidence of his rapid decline. However, based on his performance against City, the five-time Champions League winner seemed to have enough left in the tank.
