The free transfer of DAVID DE GEA to Fiorentina is official.
The goalkeeper, who had a 14-month absence, is back in action for Manchester United.
The Fiorentina team has signed David de Gea.
Earlier afternoon, the Spaniard finished his medical.
David de Gea, a former goalkeeper for Manchester United, arrived in Italy on Friday in preparation for his transfer to Fiorentina.
David de Gea returned to football after taking a massive wage cut.
This afternoon, the 33-year-old will sign a one-year contract with Fiorentina, with an additional year’s option.
Additionally, De Gea is currently taking a weekly wage of about €38,000.
After failing to reach an agreement on a contract extension, De Gea left United last summer and has since been without a job.
He didn’t play a minute in United’s 2023 FA Cup final loss to Manchester City, which was more than 400 days ago.
After appearing in 53 games across all competitions and keeping 13 clean sheets last season, Pietro Terracciano was named Fiorentina’s starting goalkeeper.
The contract of the 34-year-old is scheduled to expire in 2025.
After 12 years at Atletico Madrid, De Gea joined United in 2011. He played in 545 games for the club.
He became United’s all-time leading scorer in goalkeeper appearances and beat Peter Schmeichal’s record for clean sheets while he was a player for the club.
The Spaniard won the Europa League in 2017, the FA Cup in 2016, and the Premier League in 2013, all while playing for Manchester United.
On an individual level, the goalkeeper won a slew of trophies, including the Premier League Golden Glove in 2017–18 and 2019–20.
Also, he won the award for Manchester United’s Player of the Year three times in a row from 2013–2016.
He played for Spain for the last time in 2020 and has 45 caps.
Olympiacos were victorious over Fiorentina, who reached the Europa Conference League final for the second year running while finishing ninth in Serie A.
The new campaign will begin on August 17th, when they play Parma.
