Premier League striker’s future at Manchester United is being discussed

Leny Yoro, a defender from France, and Joshua Zirkzee, a forward from the Netherlands, are United’s newest additions to Erik ten Hag’s roster.

Ten Hag, who remained in his position despite a dismal 2023–24 season for Manchester United, is about to have two new defenders join his team: Matthijs De Ligt of the Netherlands and Noussair Mazraoui of Morocco.

Having nearly finalized agreements for De Ligt and Mazraoui, the Red Devils are reportedly contemplating a move for Calvert-Lewin, among other potential targets.

The Manchester United administration allegedly considered signing Calvert-Lewin, but the club is currently not prioritizing the recruitment of a new striker.

Although the 27-year-old Calvert-Lewin has had a rough time of it with injuries recently, he is a gifted and adaptable striker who has scored over 50 goals in the Premier League for Everton when he is healthy.

It was speculated earlier this summer that the striker—who began his career at Sheffield United—could get into Gareth Southgate’s Euro 2024 roster. He has scored four goals in eleven games for England.Rasmus Hojlund, a 21-year-old Danish striker who cost Manchester United almost £70 million last year, failed to impress in his debut season with the club.

After hurting himself in a preseason match against Arsenal, Hojlund will likely miss the first several weeks of the new season as well.

Therefore, Manchester United will be deficient in the offensive department and may seek to add to Ten Hag’s attacking alternatives via a transfer before the transfer window closes at the end of the month. Both Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney, who are English strikers, have been linked to United this summer. However, neither of them appears to be planning to leave Aston Villa or Brentford.

However, legendary Manchester United player Brian McClair thinks United should make a bid to Brentford for young attacker Tomas Toney.

In an interview with FourFourTwo, he expressed his desire to see a “bit different” player with English football background. It would be a perfect match for Ivan Toney.

The fact that he’s entering the final year of his contract may facilitate a deal. I believe United would be wise to pursue it.
