Wan-Bissaka, who is 26 years old, has 190 appearances under his belt from his five years with Manchester United. He adds a plethora of experience to the Hammers.
The 19-year-old London native has been a mainstay in the Premier League since his graduation from Crystal Palace Academy. Through his 35 appearances in continental events and caps for England at the Under-21 level, he has also acquired vital experience on the European stage.
For Wan-Bissaka, joining West Ham was an easy decision; he is thrilled to be back in his hometown and couldn’t be happier. “Being back in London is an amazing feeling, and I’m excited for what’s coming,” Wan-Bissaka added.
I appreciate the kind welcome, and I can’t wait to play for the club and give it my best. I’m glad to be here.
Being a part of that and having that insurance helps a lot when you are surrounded by a good squad, he continued, “I see a team that is in it together, that will push each other to win, and a group that has got each others’ backs through thick and thin.”
Due to his most recent injury, Luke Shaw will miss a number of Manchester United matches
The 29-year-old is out for the first game of the season against Fulham on Friday night, as well as matches against Brighton and Liverpool, after injuring his calf during summer training.
It is possible that the full-back will make a comeback to action for Manchester United against Southampton, his previous club, on September 14th, following the international break.
In a brief statement, Manchester United announced that Luke Shaw would not be able to play in the first few Premier League games this year because of a calf injury he suffered during preseason training.
He plans to be available following the first international break, so he is putting in a lot of time and effort into his recovery.
The left back hasn’t featured for United since a Premier League match against Luton Town in February, so this is even worse news for him.
He suffered a hamstring injury after the match and was out for the remainder of the season, although he was able to make a comeback for England at Euro 2024.
Shaw started the final and appeared in England’s final three games in Germany, but the heartbreaking 2-1 loss to Spain ended the tournament.
He had intended to resume his fitness journey at Manchester United, but he has suffered a fresh injury just in time for the start of the new season. This is the most recent in a string of health problems that the ex-Southampton player has encountered throughout his career.
Tyrell Malacia, who was Shaw’s left back understudy last year, is still out for the year due to a knee injury.
Wembley hosted Saturday’s Community Shield match between Manchester City and Lisandro Martinez, who started at left back with Harry Maguire and Jonny Evans.
With new addition Leny Yoro out for three months with a major injury, Erik ten Hag is already shorthanded in defense.
